Collecting philosophy
We look for objects that show skill, use and character, and we would rather list fewer pieces with good records than many with thin ones. Age and rarity matter less to us than integrity and craftsmanship.

About Ancestral Collections
Ancestral Collections presents tribal art, ethnographic objects and traditional carving for collectors who care where things come from. Our role is to show each object clearly, describe it honestly and keep its story attached to it.

Mission & vision
Our mission is to place well-documented cultural objects with collectors who will care for them, and to make the information behind each object as visible as the object itself.
We want collecting to be slower, better informed and more respectful of the people and places these objects come from.
We look for objects that show skill, use and character, and we would rather list fewer pieces with good records than many with thin ones. Age and rarity matter less to us than integrity and craftsmanship.
Every entry separates what is documented from what is inferred. Attributions made on style alone are labelled as such. We do not issue authenticity guarantees we cannot support, and we share the evidence we have rather than a certificate without it.
We do not offer objects that we believe were removed unlawfully, or whose recent history raises concern. Ownership histories are checked against the documentation available, and gaps are disclosed. Objects of ceremonial or sacred significance are approached with particular caution.
Many of the traditions represented here continue today. We describe communities by name where documentation allows, avoid sensational language, and treat contemporary work as art in its own right.

The people
A live site introduces the gallery's founders and curators here, with real names, portraits and backgrounds. This demo leaves the section without names rather than inventing biographies.
